Jesus Loves Me…

12 May

Jesus loves me, this I know,

For the Bible tells me so…

This is, without a doubt, the deepest theology in Christianity. Though it is not hard to understand intellectually, it takes most believers a lifetime to realize this truth deep in their hearts. There is an often overwhelming disconnect between what our mind can comprehend and what our heart truly believes.

And why is this? I believe it is because we have made our emotions “God” in our lives. We have exalted our feelings over truth. Far too many people live life like a rollercoaster and their circumstances dictate their reality. We are told via western psychology and all over the media that we have a right to our feelings, and simply because we feel them, they are valid. Counselors waste countless hours coddling the “realities” of those driven by their ever-changing emotions. We don’t feel like God loves us. We don’t feel like we will ever be good enough. We feel like we have failed at everything. We feel rejected, unwanted, unloveable. We don’t feel forgiven, and we certainly don’t feel like a new creation in Christ. We need to stop putting stock in something as fleeting and unreliable as our over-exalted feelings and start defining ourselves and our lives by something concrete – the Word of God.

We need to rebuke the lies of the devil, the prompting of our emotions, and the cutting criticism of the world we live in, and take back control over our minds.

“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

2 Corinthians 10:5

We must not allow Satan to have any strongholds in our lives. A stronghold is a place in your mind where the enemy of your soul has gotten you to come into agreement with him. What are the lies of the devil that you have believed? Where have you allowed emotions to trample over truth?

Common lies of the enemy:

-You can’t change.

-You haven’t changed.

-God doesn’t speak to you.

-You are worthless, unloveable, a failure.

-You can’t trust anyone.

-You are too far gone to come back now.

-You are not forgiven.

-You must be perfect to be accepted.

Find these intruders and take them captive.

In order to do so, we must meditate on what God has to say about who we are and who we were made to be. Only the Creator has the right to name His creation. And He has some beautiful names for us.

Search the scriptures and ask God to reveal your identity to you. Ask Him to sink His truths deep into your heart, that they would change you at the very core of your being. He delights in His children, and He can’t wait to tell you how much He loves you.

What a beautiful message. We all need to look at each other in the perfection that God created us in. Allow change to happen.
    Love your blog Erika.
